What is danmei?
Danmei (耽美) is Chinese boys' love fiction, most of it born as web novels and serialised for years. The famous ones are cultivation epics: Heaven Official's Blessing, Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation, Scum Villain's Self-Saving System. Others move to imperial courts, e-sports teams or the end of the world. Tags call the pair gong and shou, top and bottom, which says more about temperament than you'd think.
What they share is devotion at a scale most romance won't attempt: a ghost king who waits eight centuries, a man who plays the same song into the dark for thirteen years.
