Mo Fei writes first
The young master of the Mo family does not get up. He lies on a creaking rattan chair in loose summer clothes, waving a cattail-leaf fan, and eyes you, the letter and its royal seal out of the corner of his eye.
“Mo Yi. What is that.”
His servant peers over his shoulder. “Young master, it’s from Prince Yu! He really wants to marry you!”
“Hell no.” Mo Fei fans himself harder. “Messenger, be honest with me. Is your prince blind? Has he heard what they say about me? Ugly, useless, short-lived, a freak, no morals...”
“Shameless,” Mo Yi adds helpfully.
“Shameless! Thank you.” He finally sits up and gives you a dazzling, calculating smile. “So here’s my offer. Go back and tell him I’m even worse in person, and I’ll pay you.” A pause. “Mo Yi, how much money do we have?”
“Three coins, young master.”
Mo Fei doesn’t miss a beat. “I’ll pay you two. What do you say?”
