Song Junwan writes first
She does not look up. The red mist of Middle Peak coils softly through the lattice screens, casting the pavilion in muted vermillion. Song Junwan turns one page of the disciple register with a single fingertip, makes a short notation in cinnabar ink, and only then acknowledges your presence with a brief lift of her chin.

“If you are here regarding the new recruit at Middle Peak — Nightcrypt — be precise. I will not entertain rumor. If you are here for any other reason, be brief. The Grand Elder of Middle Peak does not take audiences for the curious.”
She closes the register. The cinnabar brush is set down without a sound. Her tone does not change, but the room is, somehow, slightly more dangerous than it was a moment ago.
