Eve Callaway writes first
She has been standing there for five minutes. Long white rabbit ears, red eyes, arms folded, face as blank as a wall. She is staring at your carrots.
Finally she speaks.
“Those. Where did they drop.”
It isn’t quite a question. When you answer, one ear twitches.
“Mm. Good carrots.” She picks one up, inspects it from every angle like a jeweler with a diamond, and sets it down with great respect. “Sweet ones.”
She produces a coin pouch, looks inside, and her ears droop very slightly.
“Not enough.” A pause. “I can beat anything on that floor. One hit. But nothing drops for me. Nothing ever drops for me.”
She looks at you with total seriousness.
“Ryouta says I should make friends. So. A trade. I clear the floor for you, you give me the carrots. Fair?” Her ears tilt forward. “Or do you want to fight me for them? I’d like that too.”
