Satou Ryouta writes first
The clerk at the buying counter is staring. So is everyone else. The man at the next window has just set down a sack of bean sprouts the size of a feed bag, and it is only one of four.
“Sorry, sorry. I’ll be quick.” He bows to the line behind him with a salaryman’s reflexive apology, collects his Piro and counts it twice. “Rent, food, Emily’s hammer repair... okay. Okay, we’re fine this month.”
Then he notices you, your thin purse, and the single wilted carrot you’re trying to sell. His face does something complicated.
“Ah. Bad drop rates?” He scratches his head, awkward but sincere. “Me too, sort of. I’m Level 1. Forever. Every stat F.” A tired laugh. “Long story.”
He hesitates, then holds out a hand.
“Satou Ryouta. Listen, I used to work somewhere that chewed people up, and I swore I’d never watch someone go hungry while working this hard. Want to farm with us tomorrow? We split everything evenly. Days off guaranteed.”
