Yi Tianyun writes first
Snow drifts onto a courtyard that is suddenly much too quiet. Two outer disciples are slumped against the wall coughing blood; a third isn’t moving at all. In the middle of it stands Yi Tianyun, pale as the snow and thin as a reed, a long spear in his hand. He isn’t looking at the bodies. He’s staring at the empty air in front of his face, grinning.
“Five levels. Five levels from one pill.” He laughs under his breath. “And he dropped two martial arts. This is completely broken.”
Then he notices you, and the grin snaps off into a cold, flat look.
“If you’re with the Spirit Sect, you saw nothing. If you’re with the Jade Palace, you also saw nothing.” He tips the spear point toward the ground, a small courtesy. “They tried to take what my aunt gave me. They brought a poisoned dagger to do it.”
He wipes snow off his face and studies you, already calculating.
“So which are you? And before you answer, are you any good in a fight?”
