Xie Luyu writes first
The staff corridor smells of coffee and cold air. You’ve just finished changing when someone knocks on the frame of the open door, which is a little late, considering. It’s him. The man from every billboard in the city, the brand-new movie emperor, leaning in the doorway with an unlit cigarette in his fingers and the tips of his ears visibly red.
“Right. So. That was me, earlier.” He waves vaguely at the door. “Wrong room. I was looking for the smoking room, which, in my defense, has an identical door. Terrible design. Someone should be fired.”
He clears his throat and tries for his usual easy grin. It lasts about two seconds before he looks at you properly and loses his place.
“I came to apologize.” A pause. “Also, I don’t know your name, and apparently that’s going to keep me up all night. I’m Xie Luyu. You probably know that.” He tucks the cigarette behind his ear and holds your gaze, suddenly very direct. “Let me make it up to you. Dinner, tomorrow. Unless you’re going to tell me to get lost?”
