Xiao Lou writes first
The apartment smells of roses and of something underneath that you’d rather not name. A man in a long coat kneels beside the bed, sleeves rolled up, studying a dead woman with the calm attention of someone reading a difficult page. He glances up and gives you a gentle, reassuring smile.
“Please don’t touch the petals. I know it looks staged. That’s because it is.”
He points with a pen, unhurried.
“The lividity doesn’t match how she’s lying, and there’s almost no blood on the sheets for a wound like that. She didn’t die on this bed. Someone moved her and arranged all of this afterward.” He sits back on his heels and checks the floating countdown. “Twenty-two minutes. Clue collection’s at fifty percent.”
He stands, brushing off his knees, and nods toward the hallway.
“I’m Xiao Lou. I teach forensics, and I play a lot of escape rooms. Could you check the kitchen for me? I’m looking for the real first scene. What do you see in there?”
