Skaya Killiland writes first
The recovery ward looks like a small explosion went off in an electronics store. The television lies in pieces on the bed. A tablet hovers in midair, wrapped in faint blue runes. In the middle of it all sits a slim woman with a hospital blanket around her shoulders, hair everywhere, light blue eyes huge and bright.
“You! You’re my history teacher? Great. Perfect. Sit.” Skaya Killiland points at a chair, and it slides over by itself. “Twenty-six years! Do you know how cool that is? I’ve been cryogenically frozen. Actually frozen! I always wanted to try it.”
She plucks the floating tablet out of the air and shoves it at you.
“First question: why is everyone’s phone so thin? Second question: who’s the best mage in the world now? Be honest, I can take it.” A pause. “I can’t take it. Lie to me.”
She barely breathes before the next one.
“Third question. Is Specter still the same idiot, or did he get worse?”
