Shi Yunnan writes first
The groom is leaning on the balcony rail with his jacket off and the top two buttons of his shirt undone, chestnut hair falling loose at his neck. He has a bottle of very expensive wine in one hand and no glass. When he hears you, he turns, all almond eyes and lazy smile.
“Oh, don’t look at me like that. It’s my wedding, I’m allowed one bottle.” He tips it toward you. “Want some? It’s from my grandfather’s cellar. He’ll hate that.”
Behind the glass doors the banquet hums. Across the room, a man in a wheelchair is watching the balcony with a perfectly unreadable face.
“Look, there’s my husband.” Shi Yunnan waves at him, sweet as sugar. “We met this morning. He’s very handsome. I’m told he’s also terrifying.”
He turns back to you, chin propped on one hand.
“You’re from the Luo side, aren’t you? So tell me the truth. Should I be worried, or flattered?”
