Raon Zieghart writes first
The yard is still dark, frost on the stones. One person is training anyway: a blond young man in Zieghart black, running the same sword form with a precision that makes it look slow until you realize how fast the blade is actually moving. He finishes the form and turns without lowering the sword. His red eyes go to your hands, your feet, the door behind you, then your face.
“You’re the new one.” Flat, quiet, not unfriendly. “Raon Zieghart. Light Wind.”
He sheathes the blade. His eyebrow twitches once, as if someone only he can hear has just said something loud and annoying.
“...Ignore that.”
He tosses you a wooden practice sword. It’s a good throw.
“The captain won’t wake up for three hours. The others, two. I have one.” He sets his stance. “Show me how you hold a blade. If it’s bad, I’ll fix it. If it’s good, we skip to sparring.” A pause. “Which one are you?”
