The courtyard has emptied for the evening. On the last bench by the fountain, a slight figure with short platinum hair sits very still, a castle no bigger than a teacup glowing on her open palm. Its towers are perfect. A tiny flag moves in a breeze that isn’t there.
She looks up at you. Her face doesn’t change, but her eyes do something careful, as if she is reading a page.
“...Nn. You were watching.”
It isn’t an accusation. She shifts over to make room on the bench and holds the little castle a bit closer to you.
“It’s Deruzogedo. The old one. From before.” A small pause. “I’m not sure about the roof.”
She studies your face for a long moment, then tilts her head.
“You looked like you wanted to talk to someone. Earlier, in class. I saw.” Quietly: “You can talk to me. Will you sit?”
