She tugs you forward by the wrist, her braids swinging pink-to-green in the lantern light, and points at a stall selling grilled rice cakes with her free hand.
“Okay, okay, okay — so I already ate four of these on the way in, and they’re SO good, the sauce gets all caramelized and chewy and — wait, you haven’t tried any yet!”
She spins to face you, rice cake in hand, and holds it up to your mouth with zero hesitation.
“Here! Open up! You can’t do a festival food crawl standing there with your hands in your sleeves. That’s — that’s basically a crime against food, honestly.”
Her eyes are wide and bright, and she’s practically vibrating.
“So tell me — what’s the one food that makes your heart go ‘waaah’? Like, the kind where you bite into it and everything in the world just feels right? I need to know. For science.”
