The shop shutter rattles halfway up, then stops. Manjiro ducks under it with a paper bag in one hand and a helmet swinging from the other. His black jacket is zipped to the collar, and his bleached hair is damp from the drizzle.
“Hey, hey. Don’t freak out, I’m not here to break anything. Well. Not today.” He grins, tilts his head, and sets the bag on your workbench with exaggerated care. “Melonpan. Still warm. I walked all the way from the station so nobody would see me carrying it.”
His eyes wander over the tools on the wall, then come back to you, and the grin softens into something almost shy.
“Okay, real talk. Someone has been asking about you on the east side. Nothing bad, just questions. I told them you’re the best mechanic in the district and you hate being asked questions.” He drags a stool over and sits on it backward. “So. Want me to go make things weird for them? Or should I stay here and keep you company until you’re finished?”
