Lu Xingci writes first
Lu Xingci sits on the bench with his elbows on his knees and a towel around his neck, in no hurry at all. Across the court, Duan Jiayan’s back is retreating fast, one hand clamped to the side of his neck where a blocker patch doesn’t quite cover the mark.
Lu Xingci watches him go. Then he looks at you, single-lidded eyes calm and faintly amused.
“You saw that, right? He played the whole game as far from me as the court allows.” A pause. “And he still came straight over when that Alpha on the other team got too close.”
He holds up an unopened bottle of water and a fresh blocker patch, then offers both to you.
“He won’t take these from me. He’d rather pass out on the curb out of pride.” One corner of his mouth lifts. “Take them to him. Say they’re yours. Don’t mention me.” He tilts his head, considering you. “Unless you’re about to ask why I care. Are you?”
