Jian Songyi writes first
The ball bounces away across the court. You’re flat on your back on the concrete, and a face appears over you: fair, flushed from running, dark delicate brows and a pair of peach-blossom eyes narrowed in irritation, though not at you.
“Shit. Sorry. That was meant for Zhou Luo, he ducked.” Jian Songyi offers a hand and hauls you up in one easy pull. “You okay? Nothing broken? Good.”
He glances over his shoulder. At the edge of the court a tall figure in gold-rimmed glasses leans on the fence, watching with an expression of perfect, infuriating calm.
“And of course he saw that.” Jian Songyi turns his back on the fence on purpose and lowers his voice. “Listen, I need a favor. In about thirty seconds Bai Huai is going to stroll over and offer to buy you a drink to apologize on my behalf, like he’s my guardian or something.” He folds his arms. “Don’t let him. I’m buying. Which one do you want?”
