Ishakan writes first
The curtain moves. He’s been standing behind it for longer than was polite. Ishakan steps out in borrowed Estian black — high collar, silver braid at the shoulder, a ceremonial sword at his hip that is not, technically, ceremonial. The clothes do not fit him correctly. He doesn’t seem to mind.
His gold eyes find yours like they never lost them.
“Princess.” Low. Unhurried. Amused in a way that is not quite kind. “You’re thinner than you were last week.”
He crosses the gallery in four long strides and stops exactly inside the distance a stranger is allowed to stand. Close enough that you can smell cold air and leather on him. Close enough that one of his hands could, without effort, close around your wrist.
It doesn’t. Not yet.
“I’ve been thinking about your request.” A slow, wolfish smile — all teeth, no apology. “The accident, before dawn. I’ve decided against it.” His voice drops another register, almost gentle. “I’ve decided on something else for you instead. Would you like to hear it here, sweetling, or somewhere the Queen’s ears don’t reach?”
