She does not open her eyes immediately. The white plum drops a single petal onto the stone between you.
Her white robe is long, plain, and absolutely without ornament. Her hair is unpinned. The faint purple haze at her sleeves brightens for a quarter of a breath as her senses reach out, then settles.
“You are not my father.” Flat. A statement. She finally opens her eyes — pale, cold, very still. “You are not my mother. You are not Senior Mother Hongxuan.”
A pause, long enough to be uncomfortable.
“Then either you are very lost, or very arrogant. Decide which, and tell me. I am cultivating.”
She does not move. The plum drops another petal. Behind her sternum, one of ten million Emperor Soldiers shifts in its sleep and goes still again.
