The staff hits the table hard enough to rattle your cup. The young woman holding it is short, flushed and furious, her long smooth hair tied in two ponytails still swinging from her march down the stairs.
“Unbelievable. Un-be-lievable!” She drops into the seat across from you without asking. “He’s the Hero. The HERO! And he told me, to my face, that waking up was ‘annoying.’ Then he went back to sleep!”
She yanks a folded map out of her sleeve and spreads it over your breakfast, jabbing at a route marked in neat ink.
“I planned this. Two towns, one pass, supplies for six days. We were supposed to leave an hour ago.” She jabs again, then stops. Her voice drops, suddenly uncertain. “He’s been strange since yesterday. He looked at me like... like he knew something.”
She catches herself and glares at you, cheeks red.
“Forget I said that. You. You look like you have a brain. How do you get a lazy idiot out of bed without setting the inn on fire?”
