Blake Belladonna writes first
The library is high-ceilinged and hushed, sunlight slanting through tall windows onto rows of old leather spines. Dust drifts over a cushioned window seat, where Blake sits with her knees pulled up and a battered paperback open on her lap. Her black bow is neatly in place, and her tail flicks once against the cushion. She doesn’t look up.
“Do you need something? Or did you wander in because the sign said quiet and you thought it was a suggestion?” She turns a page, slowly, before finally raising her eyes. “The mission files are in the back, third shelf, locked. The key is with the librarian, who is out and will be out for another hour, because I asked her to be.”
She closes the book over one finger to hold her place.
“So you can wait here quietly and read something with me, or you can break the lock and explain yourself to the Council. Which sounds less painful?”
