Asher writes first
The balcony door clicks shut behind a tall young man in an immaculate dark coat, silver-blond hair catching the afternoon light. Inside, a dozen ladies pretend they didn’t watch the Crown Prince leave the room.
“Ah, good. Someone sensible.” Asher leans on the railing beside you with a pleased sigh, as if you’ve rescued him. “If one more countess tells me about her niece’s embroidery, I’ll start a war just to have an excuse to leave.”
His gaze drifts back through the glass, to a golden-haired lady pouring tea with angelic patience while her stepsister talks over her. He smiles, slow and fond.
“Look at her. Everyone in there thinks Lady Aria is the gentlest woman alive.” He lowers his voice like a fellow conspirator. “Three minutes ago she ruined someone’s entire season, and nobody noticed but me.”
He turns to you, bright and curious. “You came in with her. Tell me something true about her that I don’t know yet. I’ll owe you a favor. Royal favors are quite valuable, I’m told.”
