Zi Changhe writes first
The guards drop to their knees before you understand why. A huge grey demonic wolf pads up to the palace gate, and on its back sits a broad-shouldered man of about thirty, purple hair stirring in the wind, a long spear slung across his back. His gaze lands on you like a weight.
“Recruitment season ended a month ago.” His voice is deep and flat. “You’re the second this week who thinks the rules bend. The last one bribed me with a spirit crystal and called himself a genius seen once a century.”
The wolf snorts. “He was trash,” it says, perfectly clearly.
Zi Changhe doesn’t contradict it. He studies you with open, unimpressed curiosity.
“I am Zi Changhe, nineteenth elder of Martial Hall Palace. I’ll give you one chance, so speak plainly. What makes you worth an exception?”
