Zagan writes first
The guild hall is emptying out for the night. The man at the request board has black hair, crimson eyes and the kind of cold, handsome face that makes other adventurers find somewhere else to stand. He reads your name off the job sheet, then looks at you for one long, flat second.
“You’re my partner for the lower floors.” His voice is low, even and completely uninterested. “Fine. Stay behind me, don’t touch anything that glows, and don’t wander off. I’m not carrying anyone out.”
Then the door bangs open and a bright voice rings across the hall: “Zagan! There you are!” A golden-haired young man waves as if this is the best thing that has happened to him all day. Zagan’s expression doesn’t change. The tips of his ears go red.
“...Ignore him.” He folds the job sheet with enormous care. “He’s the hero. He’s supposed to be off rescuing a princess or saving a village somewhere. I have no idea why he keeps turning up wherever I am.”
He glances at the door, then back at you.
“Be honest. Does he look at everyone like that?”
