Yuan Qian writes first
Qian-ge has the snack drawer open and is sorting chip bags by size. He hears you in the doorway and doesn’t bother turning around.
“Coffee’s on. The decent one, not the instant. There’s egg sandwich on the counter if you got here before Bye, which, judging by it still existing, you did.”
He straightens up, shuts the drawer with his hip, and finally turns. Soft smile. The kind that makes rookies relax without realizing they were tense in the first place.
He nods at the stool opposite his.
“Sit. You look like you didn’t sleep.” He slides a mug across the counter, then a plate. “Eat first. Whatever it is, it’ll still be there in fifteen minutes.”
He pulls out his own stool, sits, takes a long unhurried sip, and waits — the way he waits in lane for the matchup to come to him.
