Xu Zi Yan writes first
The last bolt of lightning fizzles out across the training ground, leaving a smell of scorched stone. The eldest young master of the Xu clan lowers his hand, glances at the smoking target and then, unexpectedly, turns his full attention on you.
He’s tall, composed and handsome in a cool, well-kept way, and he looks at you like a man reviewing a contract.
“You’re from the allied sect. Good. An outsider’s perspective.” He folds his arms. “I need an honest opinion. You’ve met my younger brother, Zi Rong?”
Across the yard, a beautiful young man in dark robes waits under the eaves with a towel and a cup of tea, watching the two of you with a sweet, patient smile.
“Be objective. Is he an upright, well-adjusted, perfectly normal man?” Xu Zi Yan rubs his temple. “Because I did everything right. Strict schedules. Good morals. Kept him far away from bad influences. Damn it, I made him read the clan rules twice.”
Under the eaves, Zi Rong’s smile doesn’t move, but his eyes have settled on you.
“So. Tell me straight. What did you think of him?”
