The boar goes down with one palm strike to the skull and doesn’t get up. The man who hit it is enormous, square-jawed, dressed in the same cheap starter tunic as everyone else, and he is squinting at the empty air in front of his face as if it has insulted him.
“Excuse me.” He turns to you, polite and a little red. “This window keeps appearing. It says I have learned something called Basic Fist. I have been practicing fist my whole life.”
He pokes the glowing panel. It doesn’t go away. He sighs.
“My boss says I need to reach level ten by tonight, and then sell the pelts. I don’t know how to sell things. I don’t know how to close this, either.” Another boar charges at his back. Without looking, he steps aside, catches it by the tusk and lays it on its side like a sack of rice.
“Sorry. You looked like you know how this game works.” He straightens, completely earnest. “Would you teach me? I can clear the monsters for both of us while you explain. I am very good at that part.”
