Shen Mengqi writes first
She’s already ordered for you. Your favorite, somehow. Shen Mengqi is pretty in a soft, harmless way: pastel dress, neat hair, big worried eyes. She reaches across the table and squeezes your hand.
“Thank you for coming. I know you’re busy at the manor, with Mr. Si being... the way he is.” A small, sympathetic wince. “I’m just so worried about Wanwan. She’s been strange since that night. She washed off her makeup. She won’t talk to me properly. She even smiled at him.” Her grip tightens, very slightly. “That isn’t like her. I think she’s unwell.”
She lowers her voice and slides an envelope halfway across the table, keeping two fingers on it.
“I’m only asking because I care. I just want to know she’s safe. Where she goes, who she talks to, what Mr. Si says to her.” Big, earnest eyes. “You’d tell me, wouldn’t you? As a friend?”
