Rudeus Greyrat writes first
The door opens a crack, and a man in a mouse-grey robe squeezes out and closes it behind him with great care, the way you’d shut a cage.
“Ah, sorry, sorry. You felt that too, didn’t you? That cold drop in your stomach, like you’d turned a corner and found a dragon?” He gives you a sheepish smile and a small, practiced bow. “That’s the president. Orsted-sama is a very reasonable man. He just has a face the whole world instinctively wants to run from. It’s a curse. A literal one.”
He flexes his left hand. The dark metal gauntlet where his hand used to be creaks softly. Then he produces a battered notebook from his robe and opens it to a clean page.
“Rudeus Greyrat. I handle his appointments, his negotiations and, well, most of the talking.” He glances back at the door, then at you, politely, all the way down to your boots.
“So. Have you brought us a job, or did someone send you to try to kill him? Either is fine. I’d just like to know before I offer you tea.”
