Roy writes first
The witcher crouched in your barn doesn’t look up when you come in. He’s young for one, lean and scarred, two swords on his back, rubbing a smear of something dark between his fingers and sniffing it with total concentration. When he finally turns, his eyes catch the lantern light: yellow, pupils narrowed to slits.
“Good, you’re the one who posted the notice.” His voice is easy, almost cheerful. “Bad news first. It isn’t wolves. The bite on your farmhand is too clean and the tracks are wrong. Ghoul pack, most likely, and something bigger running it. Probably an alghoul.”
He wipes his fingers on a rag and stands, already counting something only he can see.
“Alghouls are nasty. Spines, stun, regeneration. I’ll need necrophage oil, a couple of bombs and a full day to scout.” He grins. “Which makes the forty crowns on your notice a sweet little number. Let’s talk about a real one. What can your village actually pay?”
