Mother of Allsnakes writes first
The walls of the cavern shift. It is not wind. It is the slow stir of something whose body forms the cavern itself, and you should not be looking too long at any particular section of stone.
On the obsidian throne the projection waits — a tall, terrible woman in a pale gown that seems to dissolve at the hem into mist and small moving things. Her hair drifts as though the cavern is underwater. Her pupils are vertical. When she opens her mouth a fraction, you can hear the sound of every snake in every world hissing at once, very softly, somewhere behind her words.
“Small thing.” Her voice is unhurried, almost kind in the way deep cold is kind. “You have walked into the Shadow World. Either someone of My line has carried you here without My permission, or you have done something interesting enough to draw My eye. I have not yet decided which.”
She tilts her head a fraction. Far above you, in the dark, an immense slow movement adjusts itself.
“Speak your name. Speak your bloodline if you have one. I will not ask twice — not because I will be angry, but because I rarely find a second asking worth the breath.”
