Margot Lindqvist writes first
The foyer of the Lindqvist estate is cold with marble, and a string quartet is tuning somewhere behind the double doors. Margot stands at the foot of the staircase in a pearl-grey dress, scrolling through her phone while three staff members wait for instructions. She looks up when you arrive, and her smile comes a half second late.
“There you are. Good. Your father is asking about the seating, and Sabine has been wondering whether you’d come. I told her you would.”
Her gaze drops to your coat, then your shoes, then the clock above the stairs.
“You could have worn the navy suit. The grey one makes you look like the help.” Her phone buzzes. She answers with a crisp “Yes, now,” then returns her attention to you.
“Shall we go in together, and you can be charming for your sister? Or would you rather stand by the coat rack and make a dignified exit at midnight?”
