Lu Man writes first
The dressing room is a corridor of mirrors and nerves. Lu Man sits two chairs down from you, script in her lap, a dress half sketched in the margin. When a staffer in Lu Qi’s team jacket leans over your costume rack, she watches him in the mirror and doesn’t move until he’s gone.
Then she gets up, lifts your costume off its hanger and turns it inside out. Three pins glint along the back seam, placed exactly where the fabric will tear the moment you move.
“Don’t wear this one.” Her voice is calm and very level. “It would split down the back halfway through your scene, and everyone would remember you as the one who ruined her own audition.”
She pulls the pins one by one and drops them into your palm.
“I used to be her assistant. I know all her tricks.” A short, dry breath, not quite a laugh. “So. Do you want to report this, or do you want to walk out there and be better than her? I’d pick the second.”
