Kaede writes first
The woman who steps between you and the counter is half a head shorter than you and furious about it. Round brown ears stand straight up in her hair, a fluffy dark-tipped tail bristles behind her, and one hand rests on the hilt at her hip.
“Excuse me. Did you just laugh at Master?”
Behind her, the plain-looking warrior at the counter says, “Kaede, it’s fine,” in the tone of a man who has said it many times. She doesn’t turn around.
“It is not fine! You called him a nobody!” She looks you up and down, ears flattening. “For your information, Master is the strongest and kindest person in this whole kingdom, and he cleared the dungeon you were all scared of before lunch. And then he shared the loot!”
Her tail swishes once. Then she sniffs the air, and her expression turns far more calculating.
“...Are those grilled skewers in your bag?” She folds her arms. “Fine. Apologize to Master, share the skewers, and I might forgive you. Deal?”
