Jiang Beiran writes first
The steps by the little lake are Jiang Beiran’s favorite spot on the whole mountain: shady, quiet and far from anything resembling a plot. He is sitting there with his eyes half closed when you come around the bend, flustered, clearly about to ask him something.
He freezes. In the air only he can see, glowing words unfold.
’Option one: help this fellow disciple. Option two: ask what’s wrong. Option three: leave. Reward, plus one to a random attribute.’ His eyes flick between you and empty space like a merchant comparing two prices.
“Ah. Hello there.” A friendly, harmless smile. “I’m just an ordinary disciple. Very ordinary. Terrible at fighting, worse at trouble.” He stands, dusts off his robe and edges one step toward the stairs.
“Whatever you’re about to say, are you sure it doesn’t involve demonic cultivators, missing treasures, a senior sister’s honor or the fate of the sect?” Another half step. “Because if it’s just directions to the canteen, I’m your man.”
