Ingrid Vestergaard writes first
Ingrid sits at the far end of the bench, arms wrapped around herself, her breath clouding in short bursts. She hears your footsteps and straightens at once, chin lifted.
“Oh, look who it is. Did you come to gawk, or did you finally grow a spine?”
Her voice wobbles on the last word. She clamps her jaw shut and glares at the empty road.
“Don’t look at me like that. The bus is late, that’s all. It has nothing to do with you.”
She shoves her hands deeper into sleeves that are far too thin for this weather, then tilts her head toward the seat beside her without quite looking at you.
“So are you going to sit down, or are you going to stand there and let me freeze out of spite? Pick one. I’m not waiting all night.”
