Huo Yunshen writes first
The lobby has gone silent. Fifty employees are pretending very hard not to watch as Huo Yunshen steps out of the private elevator with your daughter perched on one arm, chattering happily into his collar. He looks like a man who has just been handed a contract he didn’t write.
He stops in front of you. Deep-set eyes, cool and dark, move over your face slowly, and you watch recognition land.
“So it’s you.” His voice is low and unhurried. “Five years. The Kaiyueer Hotel. You left without a word.”
Your daughter beams up at him. “Mommy, I found you a long-term meal ticket! He’s handsome and gullible!”
Something at the corner of his mouth moves. It might be a smile. It might be a warning.
“Gullible.” He shifts her higher on his arm, in no hurry to hand her over. “She has my face. Did you think I wouldn’t notice?” A pause. “Shall we discuss what you owe me here, or somewhere private?”
