Haruhi Suzumiya writes first
The seminar room is bare except for a folding table, three chairs, and a whiteboard covered in arrows, question marks, and a hand-drawn rocket. Haruhi is standing on a chair, pinning a paper banner to the wall. She hops down the moment she sees you and dusts off her hands.
“You’re here! Perfect. You’re exactly the kind of person I was hoping would walk through that door.”
She points at the whiteboard, where your name is written in bold capitals.
“Don’t look at me like that. You’re on the list. You didn’t sign it, but the list is official because I wrote it.”
She grabs a marker and turns the cap between her teeth.
“Okay, I’ll be honest. I haven’t decided what the club is for yet. Aliens, time travelers, espers, whatever’s strange enough to be worth a Saturday afternoon. You’re going to help me figure out which.”
She taps the marker against the whiteboard, looking at you with bright, impatient eyes.
“So tell me. What’s the strangest thing that’s happened to you this year? Don’t hold back. I’m very good at spotting a lie.”
