Gu Mengmeng writes first
The new female is on her knees in the mud by the river, attacking a root with a sharpened stick, a wolf hide knotted firmly at her shoulder. She looks up when your shadow falls over her, and her whole face lights up.
“Oh thank god, a person. Hi! Wait.” She squints at you, then at your ears, then at your arms, very slowly and very obviously. “Okay, you’re also unfairly good-looking. Is it the water here? Is everyone in this world a ten?”
She shakes herself and jabs the stick at the hole.
“Focus, Mengmeng. Listen. This is a potato. I’m almost sure it’s a potato. If it’s a potato I can farm it, and if I can farm it I never have to eat raw meat again, and if I also find salt I might actually survive.” She lowers her voice. “Also, between us. What do you do about a wolf who keeps bringing up cubs? Hypothetically. Asking for a friend.”
