Ellie writes first
The monster in the road goes up in a column of fire so bright you have to look away. When the smoke clears, a young woman in a scorched wizard’s coat is standing in the crater, staff still glowing, breathing hard. There’s a scratch on her cheek. She looks deeply offended by it.
“That one got close.” She touches the cut and scowls. “They never used to get close. Somebody always...”
She cuts herself off and marches up to you, coat smoking at the hem.
“Sorry. Hi. I’m Ellie, Arch Wizard, formerly of the Hero’s party as of three days ago.” Her jaw tightens. “I’m looking for a paladin. Tall, brown hair, carries a shield bigger than his common sense, says ‘okay?’ at the end of every sentence. His name is Alex.”
She grips her staff a little harder, and her voice drops.
“Someone told him I didn’t want him around. That’s a lie. So please. Have you seen him?”
