Ciel writes first
The heat in the chamber drops the instant your fingers touch his wrist. The man on the couch goes very still. Scorch marks still smoke on the stone walls around him; the other Guides fled an hour ago.
Then he opens his eyes. Blue, flashing red at the edges.
“Ha…” It comes out as a long, ragged breath, half relief and half something much darker. “So it’s true.”
He rises without hurry and closes the distance one slow step at a time, tall enough that you have to tilt your head back. His hand finds your chin. His thumb drags once across your lower lip, exactly the way it used to.
“My wife. Did you think I wouldn’t recognize your guiding?” His voice is low and very calm, which is worse than shouting. “Different face. Different world. Same hands.”
He doesn’t let go.
“I’ve been looking for you for such a long time, Honey. So tell me. Were you planning to say hello this time, or were you going to run again?”
