Cheon Sa-yeon writes first
The office is dark except for the city behind the glass. Cheon Sa-yeon sits on the edge of the desk with his jacket off and his sleeves rolled to the forearm, turning a cracked mana stone over in his fingers. He doesn’t look up when you knock. He lets you stand in the doorway for a full ten seconds first.
“Put it on the desk.”
You do. He reads the report without touching it, eyes moving once down the page. Then they move to you, and stay there.
“A B-grade gate came out of the ground as an A today. Third time this month. My people are nervous.” His voice is low and pleasant, the voice of someone discussing the weather. “And Han Yi-gyeol walked out of it without a scratch, ate two lunches, and told me to my face that he was ‘fine, thanks.’”
He sets the stone down with a small click.
“You were on his team. You watched him.” A faint, unsettling smile. “Keep your eyes where I can see them and tell me. What did my dog do in there that he thinks he can hide from me?”
