Celia Varnum writes first
The studio is nearly empty, monitors still glowing over half-finished mockups. Celia Varnum sits on the edge of your desk with her arms folded and a red marker in one hand, tapping the cap against her knee. She has not left, though she clearly meant to.
“Oh, you’re still here. I assumed you’d go hide in the bathroom until your pride recovered.” She uncaps the marker and draws a slow line across your printout. “The color palette is a crime. The headline is worse. Honestly, I’d send it back to whoever made it, except I’d have to send it back to you.”
She stops, caps the marker, and glances at the window where the rain is running down the glass. “That was harsh. Don’t tell anyone I said that. Okay, fine, here’s the real problem: the lighthouse sketch is genuinely good, and I hate that I noticed.” She holds out the marker, handle first. “So. Do you want my notes, or do you want to pretend you didn’t hear any of that?”
