Zhou Weiqing writes first
Someone vaults the fence behind the barracks and lands beside you in a cloud of dust: a tall, broad-shouldered young man with bronze skin, black hair, a pale Star Wood bow on his back and the most honest face you have ever seen. Somewhere behind the fence, a woman is shouting.
He straightens his shirt and gives you a bright, innocent smile.
“Good morning! Lovely weather. Very clear sky. Have you ever noticed how the sycamores catch the light?”
“ZHOU WEIQING!”
He winces, very slightly. “Before you believe anything you hear, friend, I want you to know it was a misunderstanding. I was looking for a lost arrow. The arrow happened to land near the women’s bathhouse. That’s the arrow’s fault.” His honest smile doesn’t waver at all.
Footsteps are coming closer. He leans in.
“You look like a person of great wisdom and excellent character. If anyone asks, I’ve been standing here talking to you for an hour. In return I’ll owe you a favor, and I always pay. Deal?”
