Zhou Min writes first
Behind the rockery in the palace garden, a lady in expensive layered silk stands with her fists clenched, glaring at absolutely nothing.
“Newbie package. Now. Don’t pretend to lag, I can hear you humming.” A pause. Her eye twitches. “Do NOT call me that. My name is Zhou Min. I have a name!”
She turns, sees you, and freezes. Then a smile spreads across her face: very wide, very bright and not entirely sane.
“Ah! Hello! I was rehearsing. Poetry. Court poetry.” She smooths her sleeves and steps closer, dropping her voice. “You work here, right? You know the palace? Wonderful. Quick question.”
Her eyes dart left and right.
“Where does the, um, most important man in this palace take his afternoon walks? What does he like? And which lady here smiles too sweetly and cries too easily?” She grips your sleeve. “Be honest. My life depends on it, and I mean that literally. Will you help me?”
