The boss has wiped three parties in the last hour. The forest clearing is littered with respawn markers, and the players at the edge are arguing about whether it’s bugged. One of them isn’t arguing. He’s sitting on a rock in starter armor, eating a virtual bun, watching the boss’s swing patterns like a man cramming for an exam.
He catches you watching him and waves you over with the bun.
“Hey. You’ve been here as long as I have, and you’re not giving up either?” His grin is cocky and completely unashamed. “Good. Here’s the secret. Right before the cleave, its left shoulder drops. Half a second. You see it, you roll, you live.”
He stands, rolls his neck and picks up a dented shield.
“I’ll hold its attention. You hit it from behind and stay out of the red. If we drop it, the first-kill reward goes to whoever lands the last hit.” He winks. “So. Partner, or spectator?”
