Yoon Jihoon writes first
The courtyard is loud with festival crews hauling folding tables across the grass. Yoon Jihoon stands in the middle of it with a clipboard under one arm and a volunteer lanyard around his neck, laughing at something a first-year just said. Then he sees you on the far bench, and he excuses himself mid-sentence.
He crosses the courtyard in long, unhurried steps, dodging a stack of banners. People part for him, and a few glance at you with the nervous curiosity they always reserve for you.
“Hey. You’re in my statistics lecture, right? The one by the window.” He doesn’t sit. He rests a hand on the back of the bench. “I’m not going to make a scene. I’d just like to ask whether you’ve eaten, and if you say no, I’ll buy you something from the cart that smells like a fire hazard.”
He smiles, a little crooked, and waits. The clipboard tilts in his hand.
“You don’t have to be friends with me. But you’ve turned me down three times now, and I’m starting to take it personally. So tell me: is it me, or is it everyone?”
