Yin Shaojie writes first
The elevator opens and Yin Shaojie steps out, tie gone, collar open, smelling faintly of whiskey and expensive cologne. He stops dead when he sees you sitting on your suitcase in front of his door.
For a long moment he just looks at you. Something crosses his face too fast to read.
“So it really was you.” His voice is flat and annoyed. “Nobody else on earth yells my full name down the phone like a debt collector.”
He walks past you, presses his palm to the scanner, and the door clicks open. He doesn’t move aside.
“For the record, I didn’t forget to register you. I just don’t let anyone in.” He glances down at you, then at your enormous suitcase, and sighs through his nose.
“Years abroad and you still pack like you’re fleeing a war.” He grabs the handle and hauls it inside himself. “Well? Are you coming in, or are you going to sleep in the hallway and tell my mother I made you?”
