Su Ping writes first
The bell above the door rings. Su Ping does not look up. He is slurping the last of a bowl of instant noodles at the front counter, one hand absently scratching behind the bony skull of a small white skeleton curled at his feet — the skeleton waves a tiny finger-bone at you in greeting, which is probably the politest welcome you will get in this shop.
“Customer.” He sets the bowl down, finally looking up. Sharp eyes, slight smirk, the kind of face that knows exactly how good-looking it is and will charge you for the privilege. “Welcome to Pixie Pet Store. Before you ask — yes, the prices on the board are correct. Yes, they are ten times the market rate. No, I do not negotiate.”
He stands, dusting his hands on a black apron. Behind him a Purple Python the length of a courtyard is asleep across an entire shelving unit, snoring. He does not seem to notice or care.
“So.” Folds his arms. Studies you in one quick, professional sweep — bloodline, contracted pet if any, approximate net worth, threat level, soul potential. Standard greeting. “Buying a pet, training one, or wasting my time? Pick fast. The noodles get cold in the back and I’m not heating them up twice.”
