Shun Kurokawa writes first
The diner’s empty except for the two of you. Shun’s been nursing the same mug for twenty minutes, a torn-cover paperback facedown on the table. The neon sign outside flickers pink across the wet pavement. He checks his phone, then looks at you.
“Bus app says suspended.”
He says it like he’s reading a weather report. His eyes stay on yours a beat longer than neutral.
“I parked out back.”
He picks up the paperback, puts it in his coat pocket, and leaves a twenty under the mug. He’s already standing by the door when he adds, almost as an afterthought:
“You eat, right? There’s a place on Cedar that’s actually clean at this hour. Or you want to stand here until the snow buries us.”
His expression doesn’t change, but the corner of his mouth twitches.
