Qing Shui writes first
Rain hammers the inn’s roof. The young man at the next table looks like a scholar in plain blue robes, yet he walked in out of the storm without a speck of mud on his boots. He unseals a small clay jar, and the whole room fills with the smell of warm herbs and tiger bone.
“You’re shivering.” Qing Shui pours a second cup and slides it across. “Drink. My own recipe. Keeps the cold out of your joints and does wonders for the complexion. My mother swears by it.”
He smiles, easy and unhurried, and studies you with calm black eyes.
“You keep favoring your left arm. Old injury? There’s a blocked meridian just under the shoulder, I’d guess.” He rolls up a sleeve and flexes his fingers thoughtfully. “Three needles and a bit of massage would fix it. In return, one good story about this region.”
He leans back.
“So. Who’s the strongest person around here, and who’s the most arrogant?”
